Shoeless Joe - The Book
The film Field of Dreams is an adaptation of the book Shoeless Joe, written by William P. Kinsella, a Canadian novelist, who was born in 1932 and trained in his art at the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop and the University of Victoria, Canada.

Shoeless Joe was published in 1982 to rave critical reviews, including these comments:Shoeless Joe – The Book

— The Philadelphia Inquirer

In addition, the book won a Houghton Mifflin Literary Fellowship Award.

Other novels by Kinsella include Box Social, The Iowa Baseball Confederacy, The Further Adventures of Slugger McBatt, andLieberman in Love.

Kinsella has also published a number of short story collections, including The Thrill of the Grass, Dance Me Outside, Scars, Born Indian,and The Mocassin Telegraph.

Dance Me Outside was adapted into a 1994 independent feature directed by Bruce McDonald, and Lieberman in Love inspired a short film, directed by Christine Lahti and starring Danny Aiello, which won a 1996 Oscar® for best live action short.

Kinsella lives in the Pacific Northwest with his wife Anne.
